Time flies when you're having fun so they say, well I couldn't agree more with that statement. I can't believe that the school is finally over. Yes, the S.Y 2011-2012 just ended and allow me to go nostalgic on this post because my heart's overflowing with thanksgiving.
S.Y 2011-2012 was my first year in teaching. When I left the hustle and bustle of the office/corporate work and decided to take a risk and shift working arena I was totally scared and excited. God knows how much I prayed for this and the struggles I had to face just to be where I am right now--Happy place. Last Thursday, as I was administering an exam with a nursery kid, I just found myself in tears. I was suddenly blown away, back to the first few months with these kids. Some male kids didn't even knew how to pee and won't even touch 'it'--had a lot of bloopers/laugh during those times; some kids would cry that I had to carry them just to enter the room; some kids won't speak English--won't even try; some kids just won't sit with the rest of the class in circle time. Picture this: Teacher discussing and there would be a kid walking around the room while the rest of the kids are in the floor with their mouth open and attentively listening; some don't know how to say "Thank you" and "You're welcome" and the magic word: "Please"; and all of them don't know how to write/count/make the letter sounds. But now, it just puts me to tears to see how much they've improved.
Now, they're always excited to go to school--even when it's stormy, they would still ask us why they didn't go to school the other day. And they're actually even running to get inside the room now!; They can now go to the rest room by themselves--one even stopped using diapers; Kids who were so scared/shy/intimidated to speak English are now speaking the language; Now, when the teacher said it's circle time, the kids would sit like an Indian and they would know that we're done playing and it's now listening time; Now, the kids would even tell me, "Teacher she/he didn't say thank you to me" or "Teacher, Blue didn't say 'you're welcome' to Red"; and now, you can actually give them test instructions and read them the questions and they would write the answers on their own. Those may seem shallow to some, but for a kid? Those are milestones for their early childhood growth and learning. :'>
So now, it just seem surreal that it has been a year. These first set of children whom I was able to become part of, would always--always be special to me. They were my first teachers so lemme share some good old memories with them kiddos. :)
Chose this song because one of the Nursery class would be dancing it this afternoon on our Moving-Up rites and because this is how they make me feel. :) :P
